Google clarifies the ‘core’ algorithm

Following last week’s confirmation that Google had incorporated Panda into its core algorithm, the search engine has faced a barrage of questions from brands, business owners and SEO experts alike.  We all want to know what exactly does it take to be part of the core algorithm? How is being part of the core algorithm any different to existing as a standalone algorithm? And most importantly, what will the impact be for my search engine rankings?  It’s not known exactly when  Panda was incorporated into the core algorithm  even though the confirmation came last week. Google said it doesn’t work in real time so while the announcement arrived amid a particularly unsettled period for search results, there isn’t necessarily a correlation between Panda being officially ushered in as a part of the Google core algorithm and the state of flux encountered in several quarters over the course of the last two weekends.  Perhaps anticipating that by clarifying the Panda addition it had muddied the wa

Neither has immediate plans to go to another company, added sources, but are expected to. Right now, the jobs of both Weil and Stanton will be filled with interim replacements. A Twitter spokesperson declined to comment. There have been rumblings of the changes for weeks now inside the San Francisco social communications company. Sources said Twitter is planning to announce the shuffle tomorrow, along with the hire of a prominent CMO. Vjeran Pavic for Re/code Katie Jacobs Stanton at Code/Media Sources said she was a well-known exec from a big brand company, but  Re/code  could not determine who that is. (We have some good guesses, but  Re/code  tries hard not to guess.)  In any case

Search engines love new, relevant, keyword-rich content, and they reward the websites that have it with better page rankings. How to Find What Google Knows About You

1  of  3 How to Find What Google Knows About You: Find Your Google History Update:  Google has just consolidated a lot of these features into the new   My Account   area. It's got a better user interface and lets you view and erase your history as well as change your security settings.  Google keeps tabs on a lot of data about you. How and when you surf, the search terms you use, the pages you visit (if you visit them while logged into your Google Account from a Chrome browser, an Android device, or by clicking on them in Google.) Google also makes  demographic assumptions  based on analysis of that data.   You could avoid the problem entirely by searching in "incognito" mode. It's a good option if you know you're going to surf something (ahem) objectionable. But chances are that you've already been searching along and giving Google plenty of data to mine. Some of it may be more helpful than others.   Don't panic. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Th

Drupal CMS admins cautioned about update problems

The open source Drupal content management platform is among the top free CMS in the world, with an estimated 15 million downloads  according to one source . However, a researcher has warned of three security update issues that infosec pros and Web administrators need to pay attention to. In a blog published Wednesday , Fernando Arnaboldi of security consultancy IOActive said he’s found that –if the Drupal update process fails, Drupal states that everything is up to date instead of giving a warning; –a n attacker may force an admin to check for updates due to a cross-site request forgery  vulnerability (CSRF) on the update functionality; –and  Drupal security updates are transferred unencrypted without checking the authenticity , which could lead to code execution and database access. For the time being, he said, administrators should manually download updates for Drupal and any plug-ins being used.
